Safe Home Inspection Practices

Safety is always a priority at Pillar To Post; after all, part of what a home inspection does is identify possible safety concerns. During this time, however, safety has come to take on more meaning than ever before. As a result, we have put some new practices into place so we can continue to carry out inspections while prioritizing the health of all we encounter.

We Follow International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI) Guidelines

Through a course offered by NACHI we’ve adopted new practices. Some of those include using hand sanitizer before entering the home and washing our hands with soap and water when invited to by the homeowner. We are also spraying the tools used during a home inspection with disinfectant after we complete each inspection. Of course, should a staff member have a fever or feel ill, we require them to stay home for everyone’s protection. We’re also only communicating with people at a safe distance and wearing masks.

What We Want the Homeowner to Know and Do

We understand that the home selling process can be stressful, especially right now. Although most homeowners remain in the home during the inspection, at this time we ask that you interact with us in person as little as possible. This is for both of our protection. And, if anyone in your home feels ill or has symptoms of COVID-19, please let us know so we can reschedule the inspection. Please feel free to ask us to wash our hands and direct us where you would like us upon entering your home. We will take the time to disinfect any surfaces that we need to touch during the inspection as well.

What We Want the Buyer to Understand

Although it is your right as the potential buyer to attend the inspection, we recommend that during this time you refrain. If you have specific concerns, we are happy to spend time in the home on a video call to share with you what we’re seeing at that point in the inspection. Although it would be difficult to do the entire inspection on video with you, as we need our hands to do our job, you can be assured that our written report will include all the details of the inspection. If you wish to be outside of the home while we are doing the inspection, we can answer your questions immediately following completion at a safe distance outside.

Whether you’re the buyer or seller, rest assured that when you trust Pillar To Post to handle your home inspection we will not only complete it fully, but we’ll do so in the safest manner possible. We have implemented these changes for your safety and the safety of our staff. We so appreciate your understanding.
